Internist Profile

I feel that caring for patients is a partnership. The patient is in charge of their life and wellbeing and I am here to work with them and give them the best advice to manage their health. I want to help the patient to take control of their health needs.

As an internal medicine doctor, I see adult patients age 18 and up, and I help them to manage chronic conditions so that they don't end up in the hospital. These conditions might include diabetes, thyroid conditions, heart and lung disorders and high blood pressure. I chose to become a doctor and to focus on internal medicine, because I looked at it as a career field where I could really see the reason for doing what I do. I had doctors in my family who were great role models for that focus.

Based on feedback from my patients, I believe I am a good listener. They tell me that they feel I am a calming person who makes them feel better. Sometimes just being able to talk to your doctor can be a relief. I am a knowledgeable physician and try to keep up on all the latest innovations but if there is something I don't know, I am not afraid to consult with my colleagues or do the research.

What I like best about my field of medicine is that I get to see my patients over a long period of time and we are able to develop relationships. Typically when I first meet a patient, I want to spend time getting to know them. We go over their medical background, of course, but I want to get a sense of what they are dealing with and what their health needs are. I feel happiest in my work when I see somebody with a difficult problem and health issue and they leave saying they feel reassured.

When I am not working, I stay healthy by walking my dog every day and going to the gym to do yoga, which is very calming. I like reading and I am usually busy because I have three children.
