Marie Reedy, PA
Advanced Health Practitioner, Occupational MedicineAfter college I began my career performing EKGs at UC Davis Medical Center. I was working alongside a physician assistant who set an impressive example with his work ethic, patient interactions and team leadership. I saw that physician assistants are able to expand patient’s access to health care services, and they usually have more time to spend with their patients, to fully hear their concerns and address their needs. He inspired me to go back to school and pursue the path he modeled for me. As I’ve always enjoyed learning and have a thirst for new areas of study, it seemed like the right thing to do.
I enjoy the continuous learning opportunities available to physician assistants as they can go into various medical specialties, and adapt their practices with changing career goals. My interest in occupational health goes back as far as college, as I obtained my bachelor’s in Kinesiology from Sacramento State.
When it comes to my patients, I seek to listen attentively and then respond by summarizing what I understood them to say. This allows me to demonstrate to the patient that they’ve been heard and their concerns did not go unnoticed. It also allows me to correct any misunderstandings.
When not working, I enjoy traveling with my husband and two sons and am also a big fan of Chicago-based professional sports (Go Bears, Bulls, Blackhawks!).
